  33 skittish tiny kitten and hid behind the fridge for days eluding
  34 capture. Thus my mother bestowed the quite American name <em>Maytag</em> upon
  35 the tiny gray kitten.</p>

  37 <p>Eventually my mother accepted that her dog and the kitten would never
  38 get along, and the cat had taken a liking to me, and thus Maytag
  39 became my ward.</p>
