3This file describes GNU Emacs programs and resources that are
4maintained by other people. Some of these may become part of the
5Emacs distribution in the future. Others we unfortunately can't
6distribute, even though they are free software, because we lack legal
7papers for copyright purposes. Also included are sites where
8development versions of some packages distributed with Emacs may be
9found.

11You might also look at the Emacs web page
12<URL:http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/emacs.html>. If you use the
13Windows-32 version of Emacs, see the NTEmacs sites listed in the FAQ.
14
15Please submit a but report if you find that any of the addresses
16listed here fail.

18* The LCD archive
19
20There is a large collection of Emacs Lisp code available for FTP at
84903379
DL
21<URL:ftp://ftp.cis.ohio-state.edu> and various mirrors. At this time,
22serious maintenance is resuming after a long hiatus.

23
24To get started using this archive, do:
25
423279bd 26 ftp ftp.cis.ohio-state.edu
053de3a1
DL
27
28Once you're in FTP, do
29
423279bd 30 cd pub/emacs-lisp
053de3a1
DL
31 bin
32 get lispdir.el.Z
33 get LCD-datafile.Z
34
35and exit. Then do:
36
423279bd 37 gunzip *.Z
053de3a1
DL
38
39The lispdir.el package will help you search for useful packages in the
40LCD-datafile, which is a list of the archive constants. It will even
41fetch them for you on command.

43* A project previously meant to replace the LCD is at
44 <URL:http://www.emacs.org/> but also seems to have maintenance
45 problems at present.

f093a5e0 47* The `Emacs Lisp List' at

52
53Packages posted to the gnu.emacs.sources newsgroup (see
54etc/MAILINGLISTS) might be archived specifically (try a web search

142* Packages and add-ons not bundled with Emacs
143
144Various major packages or useful additions aren't distributed as part of
145Emacs for various reasons, sometimes because their authors haven't made
146a copyright assignment to the FSF. Some of them may be integrated in
147the future.
