<p class="first">Once upon a time my mother found a kitten. This kitten was a very
skittish tiny kitten and hid behind the fridge for days eluding
capture. Thus my mother bestowed the quite American name <em>Maytag</em> upon
the tiny gray kitten.</p>

<p>Eventually my mother accepted that her dog and the kitten would never
get along, and the cat had taken a liking to me, and thus Maytag
became my ward.</p>
