Release 2.3.99.1
[clinton/abcde.git] / debian / changelog
CommitLineData
9cf8eb81 1abcde (2.3.99.1-1) unstable; urgency=low
2
3 * Both -z and -C unset EJECTCD to avoid ejecting the CD when a) we are
4 debuging and b) we are not using the CD.
5 * If we are not reading the CD, set "loud" to see all the output messages
6 (that is, in most of the cases, the first encoding).
7 * Added -f to force some events that otherwise would erase files from our
8 current run. In the standard configuration ("OUTPUT=vorbis") the following
9 actions will need a "-f" to force the last one:
10 abcde -a read,encode -o ogg,flac
11 abcde -a tag,move,clean
12 During the second run abcde should complain that it is trying to erase the
13 working directory while the it has not performed any action on the FLAC
14 files, which we encoded previously.
15 * Convert the old cdparanoia-audio-tracks file into a status entry to avoid
16 eating files from previous rounds using an early version (Closes: #341050)

22 * Added diff choice to CDDB entries ("1,4").
23 * Added SHOWCDDBFIELDS to allow the user to show YEAR and GENRE in the
24 parsed CDDB output.
d823b8fc 25 * Suggests mkcue, and erase old cdgrab info since sarge is out.
79558516 26 * Changed cdparanoia-audio-tracks to use the status file to save the data.
1b94d6b7 27 * Added the possibility of using a singletrack flac file with an embeded
28 cuesheet as a source of tracks.
0709e644 29 * Added -z for easy and quick debug.
30 * BATCH has been splitted into two options: BATCHNORM which allows, by using
31 -b, to use the -a normalize in all the files at once, and NOGAP, that by
32 using -g, introduces the lame's --nogap extension.
33 * Added replygain using the appropiate tags with Ogg/Vorbis and Ogg/FLAC.
6fba8f12 34 * Replaygain is an action, not a flag, since it can be performed individualy
35 in the chain of events.
84baf0b1 36 * debian/{rules,control}:
37 - Changed the target directory from tmp to abcde, to accomodate to compat
38 mode 4.
39 - Bump standards to 3.6.2.1. No changes needed.
c1bbe6c3 40 * Added "decho" as a DEBUG output for some specific debug variables.
41 * Added USEPIPES file, with information about how to add Unix pipes support.
42 * Added one more checking for PIPES*_* unset variables (which means support
43 is not added to abcde).
44 * Added toolame as an optional MP3 encoder.
cdbd4cc8 45 * Added a "-u" flag to set the FreeDB/whatever-cddb-server-you-use to use
46 th 6th step of the protocol and request the entries in UTF-8, which
47 hopefully will add the expected UTF-8 tags and comments.

53 * Some patches from Tom Spindler <dogcow () babymeat ! com>
54 - Added some quoting to the md5sum checkings, since the variables could be
79558516 55 null.
a9a23379 56 - NetBSD bits to use ftp instead on anything else to fetch stuff.
79558516 57 * do_playlist needs to convert the OUTPUT to the CONTAINERS to avoid ending
58 with playlists pointing to .vorbis files (Closes: #326487).

64 * Rips done in a single track were getting tagged as Various. Corrected.
65 * Possibly eliminated some bashisms from using a variable as a variable
66 (Closes: #324399). Thanks to A Costa.

79 * The new "I knew there were going to be bugs" upstream release!
80 * MKCUE needs to be passed some $CDROM as an option, or otherwise it will
81 not read the CDROM, in case is not /dev/cdrom.
82 * Also, make the CUEREADER a bit more general, since we might be using other
83 CUE extractors.

bef9c2d8 87abcde (2.3.0-1) unstable; urgency=low
88
89 * New upstream release!
f97e22a3 90 * Defining the tracknumber now resets the first track if given a number
b82e2042 91 different than 1 (that is: abcde -T 1 2-10 creates songs 1 to 9).
03308bc7 92 * Modified the FAQ to reflect the changes on Marillat's repo
f97e22a3 93 (Closes: #315724).
03308bc7 94 * Should be "space" safe: works properly when the working directory contains
95 a space (Closes: #147493).
b82e2042 96 * Repared the CD query for the discid code. When failing to read a disc,
97 actually report that there might be no disc in the drive.
c008b56d 98 * Right now, walk over the different encoders we Depends: on in Debian and
99 use the one available: if a user has a FLAC encoder, abcde will no install
b82e2042 100 vorbis-tools, so it will fail to run out of the box (Closes: #321216)
101 * Added CUE support. Still experimental...
102 * Added FLAC on Ogg. Still not activated, since we cannot get comments added
103 as a post-process action.
fd34b28b 104 * Applied patches from Fedora Core (Credit goes to Nils Philippsen
105 <nphilipp@redhat.com>)
65f3ebb1 106 * Added a post_read() function to be executed before ejecting the CD.
107 * Typos reported by A Costa corrected (Closes: #311463)
c008b56d 108 * Problem with abcde being run in a directory with files containing only
109 numbers solved (Closes: #313628).
110 * vorbiscomment uses now "-R" (Closes: #303566).
111 * "-t" and "-T" use the first track as a starter for the track list.
112 (Closes: #305749).
113 * Added CDPARANOIACDROMBUS option to define -d in case of using IDE and SCSI
114 in case of using ide-scsi emulation layer (Closes: #290768).
115 * Define metaflac in abcde.conf (Closes: #303555)
da01ddc3 116 * Added the default "-f" option to the configuration file, to represent the
117 actual default option.

129
130 * CDPARANOIAOUTPUT missed some quotes.
131 * Removed some useless lines.
132 * If BATCH is used with ONETRACK, disable BATCH.
133 * Small typos with CDROM comparisons.
134 * Logic for CDROM variable improved.
135 * Version bumped to 2.2.5 and targeted to Sarge.

139abcde (2.2.4-1) unstable; urgency=low
140
141 * Changed the way we call flac, to adapt to the new times:
142 --import-vc-from= to --import-tags-from.
143 * DOSPLAYLIST was not included in the list of options.
144 * Options passed to the encoder by using <-o ogg:"-b 192"> are now
145 supported. One can modify the way abcde encodes just for the current CD.
146 * Unfortunatelly I forgot to add the starting number for tags in Ogg. For
147 MP3 is a bit more difficult, since it needs changing the X/YY code.
148 * Also, the order of the tags in metaflac is important for the utf8 names.
149 Thanks to Frederik Juul Christiani (Closes: #297482)
150 * Added CDROMID in the .conf file, for reader programs that need it
151 (Closes: #297005)
152 * Added a check for cdparanoia when encountering data-only CDs.

81bc6204 179abcde (2.2.0-1) unstable; urgency=low
c9c2ca27 180
81bc6204 181 * New release! Let's see if abcde 2.2 gets into Sarge.
182 * debian/control
183 - Bumped to 3.6.1.1. No changes needed.
9f659ada 184 * Added support for MPP/MP+(Musepack) encoding. Although I am trying to
99d009fa 185 get 2.2 for Debian Sarge release, mpc seems safe enough to introduce. See
186 corecodec.org for code.
187 * Some POSIX shell corrections (making the code more portable). Thanks to
188 Guillem Jover for pointing the problem out.
189 * CDYEAR is also passed to do_move(), so one can use it for sorting the
190 directories.
191 * Small MacOS X fix, allowing directories with "()" to work. Thanks to Evan
192 Jones.
193 - On the MacOS X, I still do not know if abcde works correctly. If does
9f659ada 194 not, please, drop a note. Or else.
99d009fa 195 * DOSPLAYLIST also changes "/" with "\".
99d009fa 196 * DATA tracks are now excluded from the ripping process using internally
197 the cdparanoia "-Q" query option. If using another ripper, it does not
04609998 198 work (at least there is no support for them in abcde)
93415558 199 (Closes: #112692, #117412).
99d009fa 200 * New "0" choice for "None of the above" has been introduced. If selected, a
201 template is created and the user encouraged to edit it (Closes: #147683).
9f659ada 202 * New options for when the PLAYLIST already exists: erase, append or keep.
b7f1cc84 203 * Bug fixes along the code:
7acef70b 204 - abcde.1 corrections and additions
b7f1cc84 205 - abcde corrections and code reorganization. abcde now exits earlier if
206 some of the options are incompatible. Also the actions are set as
207 variables earlier, so we use less calls to external tools.
9f659ada 208 - abcde.conf additions
7acef70b 209 * The GENRE is munged now in its own mungegenre function, so that no more
210 upper-to-lowercase is done (forced) except if the default is used.
af3a0072 211 * Examples added to the tarball and /usr/share/doc/abcde/examples with two
212 scripts to make abcde kind-of-a ripper daemon.
d0491de2 213 * Add CDDB information to Ogg/Vorbis and FLAC files (Closes: #265358).
214 * Added INTERACTIVE option. Set it to "n" and there you go, without user
215 interaction.
93415558 216 * Changes normalize to normalize-audio (Closes: #267053)
217 * Copes with wav files being erased by the ripping tool.
47589f71 218 * Small patch to support ()'s in the path under MacOSX. Thanks to Evan Jones
219 for noticing and sending the patch.
81bc6204 220 * Added "-w <COMMENT>". Used to give a comment to a given CD.
221 * Added "-W <number>". Used to combine "-T #01 -w CD #".
222 * Added "-t <number>" to modify the numbering from a starting point
b7f1cc84 223 (Closes: #95828). Geez! That is low bug number...
81bc6204 224 * Added "-T <number>" to modify also the tag entries on the songs. Currently
225 available for FLAC and Ogg/Vorbis.
cc2fac68 226 * Removes trailing spaces (Closes: #280382).
227 * TRACKNAME now combines multi-lines from long CDDB entries.
24473a44 228 * debian/rules:
229 - s/dh_installmanpages/dh_installman/

242 * The mungefile() function changes * with + by default to avoid creating
243 directories with the start expanded to the files found in the current
244 directory. abcde2.2 will most likelly contain a better workaround.
245 * Correct default OUTPUTFORMAT in man page (Closes: #250649)

277
278 * New setting for the CD speed. Some drives have a higher failure ratio when
279 spinning at high speed.
280 * Added a pre-read function for preparations. Uses include closing the CD
281 tray (Closes: #137548).
282 * Added COMMENT part in OggFlac metadata.
283 * Documentation update: README, abcde.1
284 * Do not tag GENRE and DATE in Ogg/Vorbis if CDDB does not provide them
285 (Closes: #235531).
286 * Solved bug with batch encoding, thanks to Travis McKay.
287 * When *DATAPREFIX was set, the playlist creation was made without newline.
288 * Added >&2 redirection to visualize the "Erase playlist" question
289 (Closes: #241221).
290 * Added the option "-m" to modify the resulting playlist, to contain CRLF at
291 the end of every line, letting some hardware players which insist with
292 DOS-style files to use them. Also, added DOSPLAYLIST as a config option.
293 * When using a selected, localy cached CDDB entry, we forgot to show the
294 selection when asking the user for editing the choice. Now we show it.
295 * Improved the logic in the order of events when using a local CDDB repo.

301 * EDITOR is called now evaluating the variable, so it works with full path
302 and arguments.
303 * Patch for making md5sum a variable (since some systems use a different
304 name).
305 * Correction by "huf" <mihi at mail.eol.hu>. The test code in line 376
306 needed some quotes.
307 * The PADDING code and some CDDB funcions were *really* messy. Now it looks
308 cleaner, works faster and some not needed network operations are no
309 longer performed when we are working with local CDDB repositories.
310 * Added "-V" for extra verbosity (on slow networks the user might be waiting
311 and wondering is somethins is happening).
312 * Solved a bug with the non-interactive code.

335 * Added (commented) bits to check if the CD being processed is the CD on the

337 * Store locally the CDDB information, under $HOME/.cddb since it is being

353 we will not try to be very smart.
354 * Added a test for HTTPGETOPTS since it cannot be empty for the default
355 HTTPGET options.
356 * Quick release to fix a problem with the CDROM detection code.
357 (Closes: #226647)
358 * Cleaned a bashism. Thanks to Klaus Ethgen (Closes: #226782).
359 * Rewrote some parts of the cdda2wav code. Since I do not have a machine
360 where cdda2wav works, I cannot test the code. The modifications have been
361 done following user reports. If you use cdda2wav and abcde does not work
362 for you, please, contact me and we will try to sort things out. Thanks.

368 * INLINETAG and STARTTRACKNUMBER flags added.
369 * CDROM checking is now done with a bit more wiselly (Closes: #219768)
370 * HTTPGET is only requested is "cddb" action is performed.
371 * Workout the possibility of cdparanoia erasing our wav files

373 * The default answer for editing CDDB data is now "y" if the disk is
374 unknown. If not, the default is "n". Requested by Ricky Buchanan.
375 * Now we do not erase silently any previous $PLAYLISTFILE left behind by a
376 previous CD ripping (Closes: #220753)

381 quick patch. Kudos go to Mikhail Manuilov <viper5k at pisem dot net> for
382 noticing.
383 * Merged bits to make abcde work under MacOSX. Thanks to Evan Jones.
384 * Merged bits to avoid FreeDB people anger and to cut down the "abcde." part
385 of the discid. Now you can set the "-C" command with the directory name.
386 Kudos go to Bart Samwel.
387 * Added some info bits to the config file about normalize, requested by

522 * Default behaviour of VAOUTPUTFORMAT output changed to avoid multiple

524 can always split the files once they are created.
525 * Padding track wavs with 0 so if you want to burn those wavs just cdrecord
526 *.wav will do it. Use "-p" to force it when encoding a small (<9) number
527 of files (Closes: #111627).
528 * Added "KEEPWAVS" as a variable to keep those wavs. Default is "no". Can

530 This probably should be changed with an option to move the wav files to

959 belongs to a CDDA reading program for DOS dating back to 1993.
960 It's still in use and active development, so I'm changing the
961 name of cdgrab instead. See this URL for a description of the
962 original cdgrab: http://www.scn.rain.com/pub/cdrom/cdgrab.txt
963
964 Your old /etc/cdgrab.conf and/or ~/.cdgrab.conf can simply be
965 renamed to /etc/abcde.conf and ~/.abcde.conf.
966
